History Of Hummel And Plum Insurance Agency

John D. Hummel and H.W. Plum founded the Hummel & Plum Insurance Agency on July 4th, 1904, in Circleville, Ohio, to handle the property needs of the citizens of the local area.
In 1940, Richard Plum, son of H.W. Plum, began his insurance career with Hummel & Plum, and in 1954, Sterling Poling, who had worked in the field of insurance since 1940, joined the agency.
During 1972, Larry Plum, grandson of the founder, became part of Hummel & Plum, beginning two decades of progress and expansion.

In 1974, Drexel Poling came on board, and in 1977, Dannie Fouts joined the agency to form a Life and Health Insurance department, which later became the Hummel & Plum Life Insurance Agency.

In 1981, the first branch office was established in Ashville, Ohio, to be followed by one in Mt. Sterling in 1988, and another in Chillicothe in 1991.

Today Hummel & Plum employs more than twenty people full time, and several more part-time. Most of the employees are licensed with the Ohio State Insurance Department. More than twenty insurance companies, many based in Ohio, provide Hummel & Plum’s major markets, and offer nearly every type of insurance, giving the insurance consumer a wide variety of insurance programs from which to choose.
